Forms are catalogues of movements which, when they are performed correctly, display all the techniques and characteristics of their origin. Forms enhance stances, cultivate chi and tone & strengthen our bodies.
Every type of hand and foot blow are covered at all ranges of height and distance, as well as rolls, throws, trips, locks, levers, chokes, breaks and strangles. Students, therefore, find our forms totally fascinating and will become absorbed within both the form's content and their own personal performance of it. Mastery of the applications displayed within forms are of paramount importance, in order to obtain complete understanding of each form and the martial art as a whole, this in turn creates complete martial artists that are totally proficient at passing on their knowledge to students of their own once they have achieved the grade required.
Many weapon skills are also taught in Hung Leng Kuen, including Broadsword, Nunchuku, Steel Whip and Double-Ended Spear. The use of weapon training develops hand and eye co-ordination, timing, reflexes, poise, balance and grace. There are also similarities that can be noted when comparing weapon and empty-handed forms. |
