What is Hung Leng Kuen Kung Fu?

Hung Leng Kuen was founded by Si Gung J.R. Dutton in 1979. It is derived from Fu Jow Pai and Hut Pao Tzut taught to him by his Sifu, Di Sifu J. Rostron.

Si Gung Dutton also studied many other kung fu systems including Pak Mae, Choy Lee Fut, Tong Long and Yang Family Tai Chi. From these he took what he found to be the most effective and relevant elements and together with his knowledge of what it is like to realistically defend yourself on the street, formed Hung Leng Kuen Kung Fu.

Those who are unfamiliar with many of the martial art terms may still be familiar with the style Jeet Kune Do, created by Bruce Lee. Hung Leng Kuen has parallels that can be drawn with Jeet Kune Do in that it is steeped in tradition but well adapted for the modern day.

The Hung Leng Kuen forms are largely influenced by the traditional animal styles - Tiger, Black Leopard, Dragon, Praying Mantis, Snake, Monkey, White Crane & Eagle. Found out more about these styles in The Eight Animals of Hung Leng Kuen.
